Waukegan — North Shore Gas has filed a request with the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) to establish new rates starting in 2027. The filing reflects new investments in the local heating system to comply with federal regulations and ensure ongoing system reliability. It also reflects the effect of higher inflation, which has increased the day-to-day costs of providing safe and reliable service to North Shore Gas’ customers.
The investments made are important to ensure ongoing safety and reliability in the local heating system — especially during extreme winter weather like last month’s cold snap.
North Shore Gas works every day to keep bills as low as possible for customers, while ensuring it delivers the reliable energy customers demand. The estimated customer impact of the filing — if approved by state regulators — would be $5 to $6 per month for the typical residential customer.
North Shore Gas is committed to using every dollar approved by regulators on heating homes and businesses; and improving the safety and reliability of natural gas service throughout North Shore Gas’ service territory.
The ICC’s review of the filing is expected to last up to 11 months.
